Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day Expanded to Include Outdated Meds
The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day for York City/County will be Saturday, April 24, 2010, at the York County Fairgrounds. This collection day is sponsored by the City of York, The Clean Community System” of Grand Island and Four Corners Health Department, with funding from a grant through the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality.
All York County Residents are encouraged to bring their household waste to include paint, varnishes, poisons, fertilizer, pesticides, insecticides, batteries, Mercury and Mercury related materials, and computers. No tires will be accepted.
This year the collection site will again be taking outdated and unused prescriptions as well as over the counter medications.
Volunteers are being recruited to assist at the collection site. If you are interested in volunteering call the Four Corners Health Department at 362-2621 or toll free 877-337-3573.
“This year, we are pleased to include outdated and unused medications in this collection. Removing those items from households prevents accidental misuse or potential abuse. It also assures that they will not reach the groundwater by other disposal methods” says Lynda Zieg, Program Specialist at Four Corners. “We want to thank the volunteers who man the collection site. It would not happen without them.”
If you would like a list of items that will be accepted at this collection site, check the website—
