It is not to Late to Vaccinate.
Four Corners Health Department wants to make sure that it is understood that we and our medical partners are still vaccinating for H1N1. Although together we have been able to vaccinate over 7000 people, especially those at the highest risk of getting the H1N1, our job is not over. Influenza is unpredictable. We do not know the likelihood of another wave of the illness spreading, but we do know that vaccination is the single best way to limit the impact of 2009 H1N1.
Our first goal was to reach those most likely to get H1N1 including young people age 6 months to 24 years, those with chronic health conditions, and pregnant women and health care workers. We were able to hold school based clinics across the Four Corners Health District. In addition medical providers have been reaching these targeted populations since mid October when the first vaccine became available.
“There is now enough vaccine to continue to reach these targets groups as well as people of all ages. Although those over the age of 65 are less likely to get H1N1, perhaps because over the course of their lifetime them have been exposed and built some immunity, this group still has a very high probability of getting health complications if the do become ill with 2009 H1N1,”said Vicki L. Duey, Executive director of the Four Corners Health Department. In coordination with our partners and the wonderful volunteer Nurses who have made these clinics possible we will be offering two public clinics in Butler County:
- At East Butler High School on Jan. 18, 2010 from 3:30 pm to 6 pm.
- And a community H1N1 vaccination cline at the Knights of Columbus hall in David City on Wed. Jan 20th from 3 pm to 6pm.
